Abstract

405,688. Separating solid materials. MAXWELL, F., 334, Victoria Street, London. Aug. 11, 1932, No. 22510. [Class 117.] Apparatus for removing tramp or stray iron or other impurity from bagasse and other materials comprises means for loosening and scattering the materials and means for separately collecting the different constituents consisting of a screen 6 of glass, celluloid &c. which is penetrable by the iron &c. The screen preferably forms the front of a receptacle 7 which is pivoted at 8 and counterbalanced and may be adjustable on a slide 12 to different distances from the scattering device. In the apparatus shown, the bagasse &c. as it comes from a mill 3 is loosened and scattered by a rotating paddle wheel 5. In a modification, the scattering means consists of an air or steam jet.
