Abstract

405,008. Vehicle wheels. ZERK, O. U., 2136, Lincoln Park West Drive, Chicago, U.S.A. July 25, 1932, No. 20988. Convention date, Aug. 1, 1931. [Class 144 (i).] A wheel comprises a sheet metal nave-portion 12 of frusto-conical form with integral channel section spokes 11 projecting outwardly from the nave portion and secured by welding to the rim 10, a radial flange 13b adapted to be bolted to a hub flange 21 and formed at its outer periphery with a frusto-conical annulus 13a being secured by welding to the nave-portion 12 in the regions between the spokes 11. The sides of the spokes 11 are flared laterally, and the spokes are of lesser width intermediate their ends than at the inner or outer ends. To facilitate the welding operations, the outer ends of the spokes 11 are formed with protuberances, and either the annulus 13a or the nave portion 12 is deformed, so that the contacting surfaces of the annulus 13a and naveportion 12 are suitably matched. The flange 13b and annulus 13a are formed with depressions 25, 26, respectively for strengthening purposes.
