Abstract

411,914. Vehicle wheels. ZERK, O. U., 2136, Lincoln Park, West Drive, Chicago, U.S.A. Dec. 16, 1932, No. 35732. Convention date, Dec. 16, 1931. [Class 144 (i).] A one-piece wheel-spider stamped from sheet-metal comprises a hub-portion 16 and short spokes 15 of open-channel section which are welded to correspondingly-shaped lugs on the rim. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the lugs consist of flanged brackets 30 welded to the rim. The hub-portion 16 is shown reinforced by a conical sleeve 18 adapted to seat on the back-flange 23 of the permanent hub 22 and secured by bolts 20. Fig. 5 shows a modification in which the spoke-engaging projections 31 are pressed out of the metal of the rim 10<c>. In all cases, either the spoke-ends or the rimlugs may be formed with projections which are fused away in the welding operation. Specification 405,008 is referred to.
