[Class 100 (ii).] Apparatus for embossing bottle &c. caps &c. of thin metal foil, e.g. aluminium foil, comprises a punch backing member of rubber, adapted to yield to conform to the shape of the punch as the latter presses portions of the metal foil thereinto, resiliently urged towards the punch, as far as permitted by an abutment or shoulder, by a spring &c., preferably adjustable so as to permit the backing member to move away from the punch under various stresses. Each formed cap 93, after being slid along a guide 91, falls through an aperture 92, is then turned on edge by a guide plate 94, and, falling through another guide 95, takes up a position resting on the surface 961 of a knock-out lever 96. The embossing die 117 now moves forwardly through apertures in the guide 95 and presses the cap against the rubber pad 111, supported by a spring 112 capable of an adjustment by a screwed plate 113, slotted at 114 and capable of being moved by a screw-driver &c. through an aperture 115. An abutment 109 limits the forward movement of the pad 111. After the embossing operation, the lever 96 is moved to eject the cap to a delivery shoot, an extension on the lever top preventing the next cap in the guide 95 from falling into position. Plates 125, 129, the latter moving with the lever 96 and spring-pressed against the plate 125, cover the opening 117 in the supporting framework.
