Abstract

781,005. Curling. PRESSED STEEL CO., Ltd. Feb. 21, 1956 [Jan. 26, 1955], No. 2294/55. Class 83 (4). A tool for curling the margins of sheet metal panels comprises an anvil secured rigidly but adjustably in a holder and a hammer reciprocable in said holder rapidly by means of a pneumatic or other motor to strike the fixed anvil in a series of hammer blows, said anvil and hammer being shaped complementarily to correspond with the shape of the curl to be formed on the margins of the sheet metal panel. A base plate 11 formed with a handle 29 has secured thereto a housing 13 for a normally fixed anvil 14 and a reciprocating anvil 15. A pneumatic motor 16 on the plate 11 reciprocates the anvil 15 through an eccentric. The fixed anvil 14 is movable to and from its operative position, to enable the anvils to be engaged over the margins of a flange to be curled, by means of a lever 22 which rotates a disc 23 linked by a crank arm 26 to the anvil 14. The position of the fixed anvil 14 is adjusted by a screw 30.
