Abstract
404,615. Stays for hinged articles. CARWARDINE, G., 17, Macaulay Buildings, Bath. July 4, 1932, No. 18812. [Class 65 (i).] A resilient device for counterbalancing the hinged lid 54 of a cabinet comprises a pair of parallel links 51 pivoted to fixed points on the cabinet and to a connecting member 53, a second pair of parallel links 52 connected between the member 53 and a lever 56 pivoted at 57 to the cabinet 55, so that the lever 56 swings in unison with the lid, and a spring 58 connected between the lever 56 and a point 60 on the cabinet, the spring having the characteristic that its pull is proportional to its length or to the distance apart of the points between which it acts. The spring is wound with an initial tension and is arranged to exert its minimum pull when the lid is in its highest position. The position of the anchoring point 60 may be adjusted.
