[Class 39 (i).] To prevent disintegration of part of the inner surface of a hollow cylindrical cathode or other electrode 2 of a gas-filled discharge tube for illuminating, advertising &c., the end 5 of the glass tube 1 is drawn into and spaced from the electrode 2, the distance from the re-entrant part 5 to the inner surface of the electrode being less than the cathode dark space. The electrode 2 is supported spaced from the tube 1 by wires.
