Abstract
404,203. Manures. HORTEN, A., 94, Schweinfurthstrasse, Dahlem, Berlin. May 30, 1933, No. 15559. [Class 111.] Liquid manure is produced by pulverizing fresh dung or plant waste in a mill A, adding liquid if necessary, and pumping the mixture into a receptacle E where it is brought into a state of rotting by means of air forced in under pressure, preferably at a pressure of 2-3 atmospheres ; the mixture is then passed into a second receptacle H where it is impregnated with carbon dioxide and ammonia contained in the air transmitted from the first receptacle and produced therein by the rotting. The mixture flowing to the rotting receptacle E is guided through a heat exchanger D where it is heated to about 40‹ C. by means of the rotted mixture flowing to the second receptacle H and which is itself cooled from 80-60‹ C., the temperature to which the mixture in the rotting chamber is heated by the rotting process, to 20-30‹ C. The carbon dioxide and ammonia produced by the rotting in the receptacle E are not absorbed by the liquid therein owing to the elevated temperature but collect at the top of the receptacle E and pass together with the rotted mixture to the receptacle H where they are. absorbed in the cooled liquid. The receptacle H may be open at the top or formed with an opening in the lid which may be closed by a valve V ; the valve is normally open to allow the air to escape but it may be closed to generate a pressure to assist in driving the final product out of the outlet 0. The receptacle E, the temperature exchanger D and the fluid conduits may be heat insulated and additional cooling means may be inserted between the exchanger D and the receptacle H or upon the latter. The air may be forced into the receptacle E at the lowest part so that any matter settling is continuously whirled upwards and the air may be distributed therein by devices such as perforated tubes, plates &c. ; the receptacle E may contain perpendicular baffles. The mixture before entering the receptacle E may be mixed with chalk for neutralizing purposes, or with crude phosphates which are rendered assimilable during the rotting process.
