Abstract

403,906. Railway &c. vehicle undercarriages. SHEFFIELD, G. H., and SHEFFIELD & CO. (ENGINEERS), Ltd., G: H., 38, Victoria Street, London. July 28, 1933, No. 21230. [Class 103 (vi).] In a welded bogie for railway and like vehicles the side members of the frame are built up of two spaced longitudinal plates a, b united at the top and bottom by welding to reinforcing transverse plates or ribs c, d to form a modified box girder, in the interior of which the axle-box springs are preferably disposed. The frame is completed by transversely extending head-stocks e, bolster f and bottom tie members g<1> welded to the side members. In addition, inserts h are welded to the side members at the bearing-points for the axle-box springs, while further welded gusset or like plates such as l, n, o form reinforcements near the axle-box guide openings and inspection or similar openings.
