Abstract

403,843. Acoustic resonators. ALTON, A. D', 3, AllÚe Borghese, Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. March 14, 1933, No. 7754. Convention date, June 3, 1932. [Class 13.] A resonating - apparatus adapted to be associated with an electrically driven soundreproducing diaphragm, comprises two chambers one on either side of the diaphragm and each communicating with resonating tubes. In one embodiment, chambers 11, 12, Fig. 1, are arranged in front of and behind the diaphragm of a loud-speaker 10 the former chamber communicating with resonating tubes 13 and the latter with tubes 14, some of which are provided with openings 15 at their base to lower their resonating frequency by one octave. The tubes are tuned to the notes of the musical scale the group 13 covering the upper and the group 14 covering the lower part of the range and their position is calculated so as to produce maximum excitation ; the shorter the tube the nearer it is placed to the diaphragm. The dimensions and volumes of the chambers 11, 12 are small and large respectively to produce tight and loose coupling respectively. In a modification the loudspeaker 10, Fig. 3, is arranged horizontally, and a series of tubes 16 corresponding to the highest notes or to the range of the human voice are placed horizontally in front of the diaphragm, a plug 17 being provided to close an opening in front of the loud-speaker should the group 16 not be utilized. Tubes 18 corresponding to the next part of the range are placed vertically above the chamber 11. Tubes 19 for the middle range are fitted to the chamber 12, while tubes 20, 21 for the lowest notes are attached to the extremities of chambers 12 and 11. The tubes corresponding to the higher notes may be repeated several times and several loud-speakers may be used, if desired with suitable predetermined characteristics.
