403,273. Electric clocks with striking mechanism. KINKHORST, H., 18, Mariaplaats, Utrecht, Holland. April 18, 1933, No. 11345. Convention date, April 18, 1932. [Class 139.] A single synchronous electric motor 2 drives both the time train and the striking mechanism and the member 15 which is adapted to lift the hammer(s) 14 of the striking mechanism is brought into cooperation with a wheel 11 continuously rotated by the motor. The latter drives the hands 3 and also a minute wheel 4 with two pins 5 coacting with a lever 6, 9 pivoted at 6<1>, the end 9 raising a double-armed lever 7 so that the latter releases the rack 8. The rack 8, thus released each half hour, falls an amount governed by a disc which is connected to the motionwork and has in its circumference slits and cams of unequal length. Rack 8 is linked by rod 23 to a lever 16, 17 pivoted at 16<1> so that as the rack falls the end 18 of arm 17 moves to the right, Fig. 1, whereby the cam face on end 18, Fig. 2, allows shaft 13 to be moved axially by spring 19 so as to bring arm 15 within the path of pins 12 or the constantly running wheel 11. Shaft 13 is rigid with hammer 14 and thereby effects striking. Rigid with wheel 11 is a wheel 10 with two pins which restore the rack upwards step by step as striking proceeds. To give the rack 18 ample time to fall its correct distance before striking commences slots 21 are provided in a peripheral flange of wheel 10. A resilient pin 22 on rack 18 has to pass through a slot 21 to the inner surface of the flange if the rack is to fall, and each slot 21 is directly behind a pin on wheel 10 so that the maximum time is given before striking commences.
