Abstract

403,201. Heating carburetters, vaporizers, and other engine parts. DODSON, E., 66, Lewin Road, Streatham, London. Oct. 4, 1932, No. 27526. [Class 7 (iii).] Carburetters, vaporizers, induction pipes, &c. are heated by a fluid flowing in a continuous circuit wholly independent of any main engine-cooling system and connected with a relief tank to which some of the fluid can be driven, to be out of contact with the heating means, by the vapour pressure of the fluid as the fluid temperature rises, the arrangement avoiding excessive temperatures. A heating jacket 11 for a carburetter 12 is disposed in a closed circuit 13, 14 including a portion 15 heated by either exhaust gases, engine-cooling liquid or conduction from the cylinder walls, the heating fluid circulating either on a thermo-siphon system as shown or by a pump 20. A branch pipe 17 leads, through a restricted opening 21, to a closed reserve tank 18 and when the heat transmitted to the system is excessive, it vaporizes the fluid driving the liquid portion thereof towards the relief tank and the vapour carries a smaller amount of heat to the carburetter. As applied to an air-cooled radial aeroengine, the heating portion 15 extends throughout the exhaust ring. A branch of the system may extend around and heat a car body or aeroplane fuselage. Specification 197,827, [Class 7 (iii), Internal-combustion engines, Carburetting apparatus &c. for], is referred to.
