Abstract
403,115. Pneumatic separating. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and LAMBERT, B. VINCENT-, c/o Fraser & Chalmers Engineering Works, Erith, Kent. June 8, 1932, No. 16211. [Class 117.] In apparatus for separating dust and small particles from coal &c. of the type in which the materials are caused to fall through a current of air, a primary stream of air from a nozzle 6 acts in a horizontal direction on the material falling in the main chamber 1 and directs part of it into a chamber 11 through which this part falls against an uprising current of air induced at the valve openings 15, the oversize material from both the main chamber 1 and the chamber 11 being collected together at the bottom of the main chamber and discharged by a balanced gate 3. The hood 4 connected to a suction fan and provided with adjustable louvres 21 withdraws the dust and small particles and maintains a sub-atmospheric pressure in the separating chamber. The chamber 11 has an adjustable front plate 12, preferably with a hinged baffle 19, to vary the range of the apparatus, and the air rising in this chamber is distributed across its crosssection by telescopic partition plates. The fall of material through the chamber 1 is retarded by baffles 5 and a secondary air current may be provided by induction through the valves 20. The main nozzle 6 is pivotally mounted and flexibly connected to the fan 9.
