Abstract

Mills and apparatus.-In a pulverizing system the air-tight valve s at the discharge point of a cyclone c closes a chamber f into which the bottom of the cyclone extends, the bottom being closed by a flap valve e. The air is circulated through a mill a and a cyclone c, the centrifugally acting exhauster d being placed on the discharge side of the cyclone c and the vent i for excess air is placed in such a position relative to the exhauster that the air discharged by the latter is still under the effect of centrifugal force when it passes the vent and thus carries past the latter at least part of the dust which it contains. The vent i is connected to a box p which communicates with the discharge pipe q from the exhauster through louvres r. The air chamber f may be connected by a by-pass pipe k with a suction pipe g. The conical portion of the cyclone has lining plates o spaced from the wall m by ribs n. The space between the wall and the plates may be filled with cement or powder or may be left empty to be filled with separated material passing through any hole which may be formed in the plates.
