403,002. Treating paper pulp; transfer paper. SOC. ANON. DES ANCIENS ETABLISSEMENTS BRAUNSTEIN FRERES, 83, Boulevard Exelmans, Paris. May 2, 1933, No. 12808. Convention date, May 26, 1932. [Class 96.] In the manufacture of a paper base for carbon papers and the like, stearin or a soluble stearate is incorporated with the pulp, preferably in the Hollander. When a soluble stearate such as sodium stearate is used, oxalic acid is added to release the stearin and the pulp is beaten to an extent which would, in the absence of stearin, produce a transparent parchment-like paper. The oxalic acid may also combine with the lime salts in the water, or with added lime salts, to produce opaque salts.
