Abstract

A hydraulic cement specially suitable for use in sea water is prepared by mixing calcium oxide with natural or artificial puzzuolana and calcium sulphate in such proportions that the cement has a hydraulic index between 1 and 2,5. The cement is preferably in the form of a powder. The lime used should not contain more than 5 per cent of impurities, and the calcium sulphate should be commercially pure. In an example 80 per cent of natural puzzuolana is mixed with 15 per cent lime and 5 per cent calcium sulphate, and gives a cement having a hydraulic index of 2,1.
