Abstract
402,901. Valves. KENT, Ltd., G., and JACKSON, E., 199, High Holborn, London. Sept. 2, 1932, No. 21525. [Class 135.] The supply of gas to a hot-water boiler is controlled by valves 8, 16. A handle 10 pivoted to the stem of the valve 8 has a lug which can engage any one of three notches in the valve casing. In the position shown, the valve 8 is closed, but a small port 18 allows gas to pass from the gas conduit 4 to a pilot burner 19. In the second position of the valve 8, ports 13, 14 register with conduits 4, 5, respectively, and gas passes directly to the boiler through outlet 3. This is the position of the valves when it is necessary to heat up the boiler from the cold state. In the third position of the valve 8, ports 13, 15 register with ports 4, 6, respectively, and the port 5 is shut off. A by-pass 7, connecting ports 5, 6, permits sufficient gas to pass to the boiler to maintain the water warm. The valve 16 is mechanically connected to the hot water draw-off cock and is arranged to open as water is drawn from the boiler, so that gas passes directly from the port 6 through the valve 16 to the boiler. The by-pass channel 7 may have a screw for adjusting the opening therethrough.
