Abstract
402,786. Grinding-wheels. REYNOLDS, H., 303, Western Bank, Sheffield. June 7, 1932, No. 16023. [Class 60.] A grinding-wheel comprises a base, consisting of a hub 10 and a rim 11 connected by spokes 12 and webs 13 slotted at 14 between the spokes, and abrasive blocks, mounted on the rim and held in position by plates 19. The blocks have end faces 16, engaged by the plates 19, diverging from the peripheral grinding-surface 15, and these faces may be of conical form, the end faces of the rim 11 and spokes also being of conical form ; or the faces may be flat, the inner faces of the plates 19 being shaped correspondingly. The plates 19 are of sector shape and are held in position by bolts 20 passing through and adjustable radially in, the slots 14, so that as the abrasive blocks wear, the plates may be moved radially inwards. The wheel base may have thereon ribs 22 engaging grooves in the plates 19 to prevent outward creeping of the plates ; the plates may be slotted and held by studs fixed in the base. The contacting faces 18 of the abrasive blocks may be in radial planes of the wheel or may be inclined to the axis of the wheel; or the faces may be of helical form.
