March 8, 1933, No. 7002. Convention date, March 9, 1932. [Class 40 (v).] In a generator in which relaxation oscillations are produced by the charge and discharge of a condenser 2 a tuned circuit 3 is provided in the discharge circuit through the neon tube 4. The circuit 3 is of low damping so that it continues to oscillate after the tube 4 is extinguished so that the system is constrained to oscillate only at an integral fraction of the natural frequency of the circuit 3. The arrangement may be used for frequency multiplication or division and may be used as a testing generator for wireless receivers. In a television receiving arrangement in which the picture is synchronised by a local generator the tuned circuit is tuned to the line frequency and the image frequency is taken from the condenser.
