Abstract
402,411. Fluorescent screens. ARDENNE, M. VON, 19, Jungfernstieg, Lichterfelde-Ost, Berlin. March 21, 1932, No. 8301. Convention date, March 27, 1931. [Class 98 (i).] In fluorescent screens of cathode-ray tubes for television &c. purposes, potassium waterglass is used as the binder for the fluorescent substance, preferably cadmium tungstate. The binder and substance may be mixed together but the binder is preferably painted on the glass or other base to form an even layer and the fluorescent substance is then applied in finely divided condition as by spraying. To allow charges to leak away, a conductive layer is provided in the screen and comprises the binder or a thin coating produced by cathode atomization or by spraying on carbon. To prevent slowly moving electrons reaching the screen, it is provided with a transparent protective layer of potassium water-glass or aluminium.
