Abstract
401,886. Wick burners. BUCKLAND, J., 98, Stamford Road, Audenshaw, Manchester. Nov. 12, 1932, Nos. 32008 and 32821. [Class 75 (i).] A wick burner comprises two vertical tubes a between the upper ends of which there is a single shallow bridge-piece or loop c over which the wick b can be moved, and a curved slotted plate d overlying the wick where it passes over the loop c. The wick is either a round wick or a flat wick with one of its wider faces next to the loop c. The slot in the plate d lies transversely of the wick in the case of a flat wick, and longitudinally of the wick in the case of a round wick. Attached frictionally to the wick by clips k<1> is a plate k with arms k<2>. When the flame is to be reduced or extinguished or to be increased, the wick is moved by rotation of the wheels i. The plate k moves with the wick and reduces or increases the amount of the wick surface exposed by the aperture in the plate d. When the flame has been extinguished or has reached its maximum, the plate k, or its pair of arms k<2>, abuts against one of the wick tubes and ceases to move, but the wick can still be moved so as to bring a fresh part of its surface into position.
