Abstract
401,548. Photographic toning processes. MAYER, and E., BENEDIK, N., (trading as MAYER & BENEDIK, Dr. E.), 111, Obere Donaustrasse, and NEUBER, F., 36, Bergsteigg, both in Vienna. Feb. 24, 1933, No. 5732. [Class 98 (ii).] A toning bath for photographic silver images consists of phosphates or arsenates and molybdates mixed in molecular or non-molecular proportions with the addition of acids, such as hydrochloric, hydrofluoric, thiocyanic or sulphuric acid. The tones produced vary from red through red-violet to blue according to the concentration of the bath and the duration of the treatment. A suitable bath for the process comprises phosphomolybdic acid, thiocyanic acid or potassium thiocyanate and hydrochloric acid. An after-treatment with alkali, e.g. ammonia, converts the red or blue tone into brown, and green tones maybe likewise produced by an after-treatment with sulphides or polysulphides e.g. sodium sulphide. The effect may be intensified by a further treatment in the original toning bath.
