Abstract

365,661. Colour photographs. JOHNSON, J. Y., 47, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London. -(I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges. ; Frankfort-on-Main, Germany.) Oct. 28, 1930, No. 32339. [Class 98 (ii).] A silver print is transformed into a colour image by treatment with a bleaching bath containing a water soluble leuco compound of a vat dyestuff which is insoluble and fast to light, a per-compound and a water soluble halide, whereby the leuco compound is oxidized simultaneously with and in the presence of the silver of the image but not generally. Bleaching baths containing chromates and/or thiocyanates cannot be used. A bath exemplified contains ammonium persulphate, sulphuric acid, copper sulphate, potassium bromide and Indigosol pink (S.R. Extra). The colour print formed may be treated in a fixing bath to eliminate the silver halide. Alternatively the leuco compound may be incorporated in the silver emulsion, and after development treated in an oxidizing and bleaching bath. For example the emulsion may contain the sodium salt of the sulphuric ester from penta-bromindigo, and after ordinary developing be treated in a bath as specified above but without the leuco compound.
