Abstract
401,382. Discharge lamps. FIDELITY FILMS, Ltd. and RYAN, C. P., 122, Wardour Street, London. May 27, 1932, No. 15080. [Class 39 (i).] In a discharge lamp for sound recording of the type in which the varying discharge is adapted to be viewed in a direction at right angles to the direction of variation of the discharge, the cathode 10, Fig. 1, surrounds the anode 11 and is provided with a narrow slit 12 adapted to be illuminated by the discharge. In a modification, a platinum or copper cathode 10, Fig. 3, forms the container and is spun seamlessly at one end or is sealed by a cap 17. The other end is closed by a glass seal 18. The cathode may be formed by folding around a mandrel and the edges of the slit are undercut to facilitate the filling thereof with glass. The tube may be water cooled at the end remote from the anode. In a further modification, a tube for double-track recording has the anode 11, Fig. 4, arranged in a seal 18 opposite the slit 12.
