Abstract

401,280. Regulating. ARMSTRONG, WHITWORTH, & CO. (ENGINEERS), Ltd., SIR W. G., Thames House, Millbank, London, and BECKETT, C. M., 55, Wordsworth Drive, Cheam, Surrey. May 7, 1932, No. 13262. [Class 7 (vi).] In engines having the fuel admission controlled automatically by thermostatic and barometric means in accordance with atmospheric conditions, each control is connected, either directly or through a relay, to a lever having an intermediate point permanently connected to the fuel-admission mechanism. A thermostat 1 is connected by a rod 4 to one end of a lever 3, the other end of which is connected by a rod 8, lever 7, and sector gearing 5 to an aneroid 2, an intermediate point 9 of the lever being connected by a rod 10 to the fuel-admission means. The point 9 may be adjustable along the lever. The arrangement of the controls is such that an increase in temperature has the same effect on the fuel admission as a decrease in pressure, whereas if both increase or decrease together, their effects on the fuel admission counteract each other.
