Abstract

502,207. Regulating. ARMSTRONG, J. J. V. (Bosch Ges., R.) Jan. 12, 1938, No. 987. [Class 7 (vi)] In means for controlling the fuel supply to engines comprising an expansible capsule containing air or a gas and responsive to variations in air pressure, heat-sensitive bimetallic means are connected to the capsule so as to nullify the effect of the expansion of the capsule due to heat transmitted from the engine. The Figure shows a capsule 10 actuating the control rod 29 of a fuel pump P through arms 23 pivoted at 22 and carrying the pivot 24 of a lever 28 connected to the rod 29. A spring 27 oppose expansion of the capsule, and such expansion as is due to heat is nullified by bimetallic springs 14 provided between the other end of the capsule and its housing 12. The lever 28 is also acted on by a membrane 32 subjected at the left-hand side to the suction in the airinlet pipe 45. The fluctuations of temperature in this pipe may also be made to act on the fuel control by means of a thermostat 21 connected to the capsule'housing 12 by bell-cranks 25, 16 and a Bowden connection 20. In modifications, the bimetallic spring acting on one end of the capsule may be in the form of a bowed cruciform blade, or in the form of a spiral mounted on the pivot 18 of the lever 16 and adjustably connected to the housing 12. The bimetallic means may be so adjusted as to replace the thermostat 21.
