[Class 43.] Apparatus for setting or removing eyelets 31 comprises a screw 2 carried on a long handle 8 and adapted to be passed through the eyelet and be engaged by a nut 17 carried on a handle 12. For setting, the eyelet is clinched between the head 5 of the screw and a counterpart 21 progressing with the nut 17. In this case the handle 8 is bent to pass into a hole 6 in the head 5 and is formed with a groove 10 adapted to be engaged by a screw 11 so that the head is movable on the handle. The head is formed with an annular clinching groove 4. The handle 12 is formed with a reduced part 14 and a projection 15 whereon the nut 17 is pinned. The nut may be split at 20 so as to expand and is formed in the shape of two cones 18, 19. The counterpart 21 is formed with a groove 22 with which a pressed keeper 28 of a tube 26 engages. The tube 26 is slidably mounted on the handle 12, sliding being limited by a pressed keeper 27 moving in the reduced part 14. In operation, the eyelet 31 is passed through holes in the work 29, 30 and its preformed head rests in a recess 25 in the counterpart. The screw is then inserted and the counterpart is pressed down to engage the split portions of the nut and press them together so that threads thereon engage the screw. The handles are then operated to set the eyelet. After unscrewing for a few turns, the nut springs apart and the screw may then be bodily removed. For removing eyelets, the inserting screw is replaced by a screw 33, Fig. 15, having a cylinder 34a with a cutting edge 42 and a head 35 fixedly mounted on a handle 36. The eyelet and work are supported on a seating 37 fixed on a tube 38 adapted to fit over the tube 26. The screws 33 is engaged by the nut as before and the eyelet cut by rotation of the cylinder 34a.
