Abstract

399,623. Coin-freed game apparatus. WINNING, J. F. F., 17, Westminster Road, Hanwell, Middlesex. July 4,1932, No. 18817, [Class 27.] A coin-freed amusement machine is adapted to deliver to the player, after the insertion of two coins, a check which may be of higher or lower value than the inserted coins, and which is subsequently exchanged for commodities. The machine is characterized in the coin action hereinafter described. Delivery of articles stored in piles.-The checks are stored in four hoppers 30 in a turret 17, Fig. 5, and delivered from each hopper in turn to a recess 13 in a spring-pressed drawer 10 which is released by a bolt 9, Fig. 2. As the drawer moves outwardly, a cam surface on a member 14 carried thereby engages a pin 15 on a sliding detent 16, withdrawing the latter from engagement with one of four notches 16<1> formed on the base of the turret 17. As the drawer is pushed back, a pawl 18 thereon engages one of four pins 19 carried by the turret, rotating the latter through a quarter revolution, so that a check from the next hopper falls into the recess 13. The checks are pressed downwardly by weights, one of which is adapted to lock the drawer 10 when the checks are exhausted. Coin action, mechanical-connection; multiple coin.-A penny is inserted in a diametric slot in a drum 4, Fig. 2, capable of rotation in one direction by a hand-wheel 1, and displaces a spring-pressed locking member 3 from engagement with the slot. The drum may now be rotated half a turn, during which the penny drops out, and at the end of which the member 3 again engages the slot. A second penny is now inserted, and during the subsequent half turn, a projection on the spindle 4 engages a spring-controlled rod 6 which, through a bellcrank 7 engaging a pin 8, operates the bolt 9 to release the drawer. In order to prevent repeated actuation of the drawer by keeping the spindle 4 in such a position that the rod 6 is permanently depressed, a detent 40 carried by a'pivoted arm 38 is kept in engagement with ratchet teeth 41 on the drawer by a spring 42, preventing the drawer being shut except when the locking member 3 is engaging the slot, in which position a pin 44 on a member 43 carried by the member 3 engages the arm 38 and frees the drawer. To prevent the spindle 4 from being turned so rapidly that the first penny does not fall out, thus enabling the machine to be used without the insertion of a second penny, a rod 22 is positioned in proximity to the spindle 4 for catching the edge of a penny which has not dropped out.
