My invention relates to penny in the slot vending machines for cigarettes and matches, and it has for its 'object to provide a simple accurate device for the purpose of delivering a cigarette and match on the insertion oi a penny in the machine itself, and which will automatically deliver the cigarette and Y match.

Another purpose of my device is to provide a penny vending machine for cigarettes and matches which cannot be readily put out of order and from which the coin cannot be removed, and in which spurious coins or weights cannot be well inserted and a ciga-V rette or match automatically delivered thereby. f

With these and other objects in view my invention consists in certain novel features oi construction and arrangement oi parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims. Reference being had to the accompanying` drawings in which:

As a part of my device I have the casing or structure A. Mounted therein, I havefthe 40 penny slot B opening from the top of the casing or any convenient point. Mounted within the casing I have a channel C in which may be placed a plurality of matches Z, the end views of which are shown in Figs. 1 and 3;

the channel C has an opening or receiver marked C. Mounted also in the casing I have a channel l), in which may be placed a quantity of cigarettes for vending purposes.

The channel D has sloping walls and termi- "0 nates in the mouth J.

As a further part of my'device, pivotally mounted in the casing A, I have a. lever 2, mounted upon the pivot 3, the lever 2 has for its upper end the projecting point 4 which projects thru a slot in the side of the channel B. lPivotally mounted on the lower end of lever 2 I have a sliding gate 5, having therein an elongated slot 6, the gate 5 being normally projected outwardly by means of the` spring 3a.

As a further part of my device I have er;- tended thru the structure A, the sha t7, also mounted within thesame I have a. container E having the sloping sides 8 and having an open spout 9 and mounted on shaft 7 I have the triangular gate F, having the opening and closing wingslO, 10. Pivotally mounted on shaitp, I have the two disks G, G, spaced apart opposite, and forming two parallel walls and mounted between the walls on disk G, I have thetreads 11, and also in alinement with the tread 11,-I have the bucket 12. `'Ihe channel B' extends on down in alinement with the disks` until it is projected in the curved chamber H,'and opens into the coin receiving box I. Mounted in alinementwith the disk G,`I have the notched disk J having the notches therein 13, 13,.'and` pivotally mountedon pivot 14, I have the latch 15, vwhich has pivotal contactwith the notch 13, andat theother end oi latch 15, I have the arm 16, the end of which vibratesopposite the tread 11. In the channel D I place the cigarettes J, J. On the end of shaft 6, I have mounted, the turn button or knob K to turn the gate. Y Y

In the operation of my device having mounted in the channel C, the quantity of matches Z and also in the receiver D, the cigarettes J, J, J, to be delivered, I place in the channel B a coin In placing the coin X in the large channel V it contacts with the point4 on the lever 2, andV pushesV back the lever 2 which pushes the slide 5, which moves the slot 6 to aposition opposite the mouth of the match chute holder C and thus Vreleases a match Z. The coin thenfpassing moves the arm l5 out of contact with the notch 13 in the disk J, revolving on the shaft 6, the turning of which turns the cigarettes J, which drop down into the tube Y. The coin proceeds on its way past the latch l5 and down the tubo H into the coin box l. The gate having revolved, the wing l0 comes in front of the mouth of the cigarette receiver D, until another coin is dropped and the latch is released from the notch ll andthe gate turns and releasing another cigarette. In the tube Y there is the opening for the insertion ot a` hand to remove the cigarette, and thus automatically, by the insertion of the coin within the machine there is automatically dropped a match or matches from the upper slot 5, and into the receiver and also cigarette is dropped, passing down into the receiver Y, all at the same time and the same action.

As a further part of device I- have mounted on the end of the shaft TK, a knob to aid in the end manipulation of the machine and turns by hand the gate, and I thus forward to the receiver a cigarette by hand motion, while the penny falling intovthe tube opens the latch and permits the gate t-o act.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and for which I desire Letters Patent is as follows l. In a coin-controlled vending machine, a casing, a coin chute therein, a horizontal shaft rotatably mounted in the casing, a pair of discs spaced apart and mounted on the shaft near one end thereof, treads disposed between the discs, a. notched disc mounted on said shaft, a latch pivotally mounted intermediate its ends withinthe casinga hook on one end of the latch for engagement with the notches in the notched disc, the other end of the latch being disposedv in the coin chute and a knob on the outer end of the shaft for manually turning the latter..v

In a coin-controlled vending machine, a casing, a coin chute vertically disposed within the casing, a. horizontal shaft rotatably mounted within the casing adjacent the coin chute, a pair of discs spaced apart and mounted on said shaft, treads disposed between the discs with the discs so located with respect to the coin chute as to permit a oleposited coin to rest on one ofl said treads, a notched disc also mounted on said shaft,apiv oted latch within the casing, a hook on one end of the latch for engagement with the notches in the notched disc, the other end of the.

latch projecting between the treads of the discs so as toA be disposed in the path of a coin to release the latch and permit turning of the shaft, and a knob for operating` the shaft when released.

3. In a coin-controlled vending machine, a casing, a coin chute within the casing, and provided near its lower end with an olfset section provided with acuts-out portion, a

pair of discs projecting into the cut-out portion of the coin chute, a shaft on which said discs are mounted, treads disposed between the discs, a notched disc also mounted on said shaft, a latch pivotally mounted within the casing, a hook on one end ot the latch for engagement with a notch in the notched disc to normally lock the shaft against rotation, an arm at the other end of the latch normally projecting between the treads of the pair of discs and into the coin chute in the path of a coin deposited in the chute for moving the arm and withdrawing the hook out of one of the notches in the notched disc, and a knob forthe manual turning ot' the shaft.
