Abstract
399,589. Docks. BILES, SIR J. H., 40, Broadway, Westminster. May 7, 1932, No. 13253. [Class 68 (ii).] To reduce the change of level of a trainferry or like vessel due to change of draught whilst loading or unloading, the vessel 2 is loaded in a closed dock 6 which provides a minimum free water surface 4. The dock gates 7 may be curved to the contour of the vessel. The vessel may be wall-sided between light and load water lines, and the dock walls vertical to correspond. As described, the vessel is provided with two load decks, the trains being run on and off over aprons 15 at the bows. The bows of the vessel may be secured to the dock walls by a bar, hinge pin, &c. during loading so that the maximum change of draught is at the stern. Pumping-plant may be provided for bringing the ferry to the level of the railway tracks.
