Abstract

418,424. Gangways. ARMSTRONG, WHITWORTH, & CO. (SHIPBUILDERS), Ltd., SIR W. G., and STEWART, J. C., Walker Shipyard, Newcastle-on-Tyne. May 9, 1934, No. 14057. [Class 113 (i).] In order to facilitate the loading of train ferries at various states of the tide, the landing- stage is provided with two or more ramps 7 for the trains leading to different levels. The bridge 1 which provides the means of communication with the train ferry 6 is supported on one or more towers 2 which arc provided with lifting-means by which the bridge may be raised or lowered to the level of the most convenient ramp. In a modification the bridge is provided with two superposed decks so that two lines of vehicles may be simultaneously dealt with.
