Abstract

399,157. Dispensing liquids. KENT, Ltd., G., 199, High Holborn, London, FLORY, H. G., 17, Blenheim Crescent, and COLEY, S. G., 110, Bishopscote Road, both in Luton. Jan. 18, 1932, No. 1500. [Class 116.] Delivery valve arrangements for petrol or other liquids associated with a meter are provided with means which automatically operate to prevent the valves from being manipulated to permit the discharge of liquid at less than a predetermined rate, said means operating mechanically to prevent the discharge valve from being held open at less than a predetermined minimum opening, or operating in response to' the flow of liquid through the pipe to prevent delivery below the predetermined rate. In the arrangement, shown in Fig. 2, when the handle 5 is raised to open the discharge valve 13 it first compresses an internal spring 17 until a chamfered shoulder 8 strikes the slanting inner side of the pivoted detent 18 and releases it from the collar 16 whereupon the compressed spring 17 forces up the spindle 9 and the collar 16 strikes the sleeve 11 and raises this and the valve 13 with a pop action. When the valve 13 is open the point of a second latch 21 slips under a shoulder 23 and prevents the valve from approaching its seating nearer than the predetermined minimum opening. In the arrangement, shown in Fig. 1, the above arrangement is associated with a piston 40 to the left-hand side of which the line pressure in the supply pipe 2 from the pump and meter has access through ports 32, and the delivery nozzle pressure at 1, acts on the right-hand side through ports 33. In normal delivery the valve 13 is held open by a strut 24 pivoted to the valve and resting on a flange 23 of the spindle sleeve 11. In the event of the delivery pipe being partially plugged so as, for example, to obtain illicitly a small non-metering flow, the fluid pressure in the delivery would rise and approach that of the supply pipe 2 ; the piston 40, being then substantially balanced, would be moved in a left-hand direction bv the spring 30, and remove the strut 24 from the flange 23, whereupon the valve 13 would be closed down immediately by the action of the upper spring 15. Specifications 2083/10, [Class 69 (i), Hydraulic apparatus &c.], and 336,294, [Class 116, Shop &c. accessories], are referred to in the complete Specification.
