Abstract
398,892. Aircraft wheel-braking system. VICKERS (AVIATION), Ltd. and DUNCAN, T. S., Byfleet Road, Weybridge, Surrey. March 24, 1932, No. 8785. [Class 4.] In a fluid-pressure braking system for aircraft, separate pedals control the brakes on the two sides of the machine through reduci n valves which limit the available braking pressure, other means being provided for byepassing the reducing valves to apply the full pressure to both brakes for parking purposes. Each pedal acts through a spring a<9> and diaphragm a<6> to depress a member a<5> which opens a spring-loaded valve a<3> and closes an exhaust valve a' whereupon fluid from a reservoir b passes through a conduit a<7>, chamber c and conduit c<1> to a brake cylinder d. The diaphragm and spring a<9> ensure that the pressure applied is proportional to the original pedal pressure. The valve a<4> is positively lifted when the pedal is released. When a lever c<7> is moved, a valve c<4> is lowered to shut off the conduit a<7> and a valve c<5> is opened to admit fluid at full pressure to the conduit c<1>. A single lever may be used for actuating the valves c<4>, c<5> on the two sides of the machine. A reducing valve may be provided on the reservoir b so that the fluid may be stored at high pressure without subjecting the brake mechanism to undue stress.
