Abstract

398,409. Planing floors. FIDGE, H. T. A. and RATTEE, W., 75, Kinnerton Street, Knightsbridge, London. Feb. 21, 1933, No. 5310. [Class 145 (i).] A floor-planing machine comprises a box-like frame 1 carrying an electric or other motor 3 which drives a cutter block 5 horizontally mounted in bearings in the frame. The latter is supported on wheels 13 near its centre and by a back roller 29 which is adjustable relative to the frame to vary the depth of cut. The roller 29 is carried by a member 32 vertically adjustable by a screw 33 provided with a looking plate 35 ; rotation of the member 32 is prevented by a pin 36 thereon which moves in a slot in a vertical guide plate 37. A transverse roller 15 is provided in front of the cutter, being carried by arms 17 pivoted to the frame at 18, springs 19 holding the roller 15 in contact with the floor until the back roller 29 has been adjusted, when the roller 15 is locked in position by slotted arms 25 and clamping screws 28. The cutter block 5 is provided with cutting blades 6, Fig. 3, arranged at an angle with the axis of the block, and adjusted by screws 9 ; the block is provided with helical grooves 12 in front of the cutting edges, to deflect the cuttings into a collector 39 hinged to a plate 41 carried by the frame. A fan 47 driven by the motor 3 supplies air to a nozzle 50 to blow shavings out of the path of the roller 29.
