Abstract

397,558. Mechanical presses. HUMPHRIS, F., Park House, Park Road, Parkstone, Dorset. Dec. 31, 1931, No. 36048. [Class 87 (ii).] Comprises linkwork driving- gear for presses of the kind in which a reciprocating driven member is connected to the movable platen through a number of toggles. Fig. 5 shows one construction in which a crank d drives a link a which is connected to the driven member g by means of the link c and connected to a fixed pivot b<3> by means of a link b. The member g is connected by the toggle links h to the fixed head f and movable platen e. With this construction the member g moves in a curved path, the vertical component of which is greatest near the commencement of the downward stroke of the platen and decreases towards the lower end of the stroke. Fig. 6 shows another construction for giving a similar effect. In this case the link c is connected to an intermediate point on link a and the link b connected to its lower end.
