Abstract

397,446. Furnace grates. GRAAFEN, F., 50, Moltkestrasse, Zwickau, Saxony, Germany. June 11, 1932, No. 16014/33. Divided on 397,633. [Class 51 (i).] In a furnace grate having longitudinal bars some or all of which are reciprocated to feed the fuel, the bars are cooled by means of stationary pipes traversed by a cooling liquid and located below the bars or between portions depending therefrom. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the bars b are of inverted U-shape and the cooling pipes c are disposed between the downwardly extending webs, while Fig. 3 shows a construction in which the pipes c are arranged between webs depending from adjacent bars b. The webs may be of sufficient depth to house not only the pipes c but also additional pipes n, Fig. 7, serving to deliver the cooling liquid to the inner ends of the pipes c. In the case of narrow bars, the pipes c may be of rectangular section or may have a gill extending upwardly into the space between the depending webs. Fig. 8 shows a grate consisting of alternate reciprocating and stationary bars b, b<1>, the grate being cooled by pipes c arranged in contact with the under surface of the fixed bars b<1>. When the grate is employed in a boiler furnace, the pipes c are connected in the boiler circulation system. Some or all of the bars may be formed with steps or teeth z on their upper surface.
