Abstract

397,274. Metal - working presses. POWELL, A. D., 31, Clare Road, and BRADBURY & SONS, Ltd., J., New Street Works, both in Braintree, Essex. June 17, 1932, No. 17131. [Class 83 (iv).] Riveting.-A riveting, piercing, or like press is operated manually, a fluid-pressure cylinder being brought into operation when a predetermined pressure is exceeded. A ram C co-operating with an adjustable tool-holder B is operated from a pedal E through links F<1>, F and toggle levers D, the pressure being transmitted from link F<1> to link F through a spring J5. The rod F1, slidable in a valve casing J to which the rod F is secured, carries a tappet J3 normally holding open the exhaust valve J6 for a cylinder I, but adapted, when the spring J5 yields, to close valve J6 and open valve J7 to admit fluid pressure to the cylinder I, which operates the tool through links H, G. The pressure may be augmented by additional pressure on the pedal E which is then in positive engagement with the link F.
