Abstract
394,466. Animal-carrying vehicles; vehicle bodies ; collapsable vehicles. THORNE, J. H. and THORNE, I. J., (trading as THORNE & SON, J. H.), Salopia Carriage Works, Condover, Shropshire. April 29, 1932, No. 12328. [Class 108 (i).] In vehicles particularly for the transport of animals the boards of the floor and wall are spaced laterally to allow of expansion, the spaces being covered by strips and means are provided for securing on the body sides additional sides by means of outside battens to provide a box-like body. The frame comprises longitudinals 22 and transverse members 21 upon which floor boards 11 are placed in spaced relation, the gaps between being covered by metal strips 13 which may be recessed into the boards, may be of multiple number in overlapping relation, or may be of T formation. When it is desired 'to form a box-car additional sides 25 comprising spaced boards and carried by segmental outside battens 26 are placed and secured upon the tops of the hinged sides 24. The battens 26 are reinforced at their edge by strip metal 27 which is provided with a screwed part 28 at one end adapted to enter a bracket 29 and at the other end provided with a flange adapted to embrace the upper edge of the sides 25 and draw them into closer relationship with the sides 24. A roof may be fitted.
