Abstract

The bodywork at the rear of a car with a corner section, around which the end of the bumper curves, terminates at the rear door opening and has an inner sheet and an outer rear panel (11) with a projecting central portion overhanging the bumper (17). The upper and lower portions have sheets (15, 16) so that hollow reinforcing beams are formed across this region of the rear of the car. The lower member (14) has a sheet (16) attached to the floor sheet (12) and the upper member (13) has an approximately D shaped sheet (19) attached to the rear panel (11). Both members (13, 14) are attached to the inner rear sheets. A gusset made from a triangular sheet with flanged edges, connects these members to the inner sheets.
