Abstract

651,026. Road vehicles body details &c. WATERS, C. D. June 24, 1948, No. 16965. [Class 108(i)] The front portion of a motor vehicle body comprises separately formed upper panels 10 secured together by flanges preferably located along the central longitudinal plane of the body, separate wing panels 20 secured to the panels 10 by longitudinal flanges, and a lower transverse panel 28 attached to the panels 10, 20 by flanges g. Openings 13, 16 are formed in the upper panels 10 for engine cover panels 15 and radiator grille respectively, while registering semicircular openings 17, 25 are provided in the panels 10, 20 for the reception of the headlamps. The rear body portion comprises panels 11 formed with openings 18 for the luggage boot cover, wings 21, and a lower member 33 secured to both the panels 11 and 21, and in the case of a saloon, roof panels 12. Longitudinals 24 connect the front and rear wings 20, 21. Decorative beading strips may be secured between the longitudinal flanges f of the various panels, while the transverse horizontal flanges g at the front and rear of the vehicle may be covered by channel-shaped members forming bumpers.
