Abstract

405,418. Vehicle opening-tops. NORRIS, S., 9, Hovelands, Taunton, Somerset. Oct. 27, 1932, Nos. 30097 and 30859. [Classes 103 (ii) and 108 (i).] Road vehicle bodies are provided with a rear extension whereby the sliding panels normally closing the roof can be slid to the rear so as to leave the roof clear and whereby the rear extension may be used for accommodation of passengers or luggage. As shown in Fig. 1 the sliding roof panel XY may be slid to the position marked X<1> Y<1> leaving the entire roof open and the rear extension D is provided with seats G for passengers, a rear door E being provided if desired for the admission of luggage and a rear side door for passengers. The sliding panel may be in two detachable parts whereby that part over the driver may be left in position if desired and windows are provided in the panel to register with the windows A, B. A recess C may be provided at the back to receive the panel and also to hold a spare wheel. Fig. 5 shows a skeleton extension to an ordinary saloon body, the frame members providing guides for the panel. A container M, which may be opened, contains and protects the seats G.
