Abstract

393,321. Tyre gaiters. SHEPPEE MOTOR CO., Ltd., Thomas Street, JOWITT, S. G., 104, Lawrence Street, and WHITE, R., 8, Ratcliffe Street, all in York. March 8, 1932, No. 31347/31. [Class 144 (ii).] A tyre gaiter comprises a channelled shoe s secured by a chain c which engages substantially the sides of the channel s<1>, the ends of the chain c being secured together under the rim by means of a suitable chain coupling. The shoe s is fixed relative to the chain c by means of lug s<2>, extending from the base of the shoe s, which engages one link of the chain c. The sides of the rim and tyre are protected from the chain c by means of an intervening strip of leather or other suitable material c<2> secured to the chain c. In a modification, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), the lug s<2> is dispensed with, the sides of the channel s<1> being recessed to engage the chain links. In a further modification, the tyre gaiter may be applied to a twin tyred, or to a disc, wheel.
