Abstract

392,969. Fluid-pressure brakes. BENDIX BRAKE CO., 401, North Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana, U.S.A. Nov. 21, 1931, No. 36194/32. Convention date, Nov. 22, 1930. Divided on 392,933. [Class 103 (i).] In a hydraulic transmission system the reservoir for reserve liquid is maintained under air pressure in order to keep the system full of liquid. In one modification the reservoir is divided into two compartments by a diaphragm, one compartment contains the reserve liquid and the other is provided with a tyre valve so that it may be charged with air by means of a tyre pump &c. In a further modification, the liquid is contained in a bellows 80 and a vacuum produced by the engine induction pipe is formed beneath a diaphragm 72 which causes atmospheric air pressure to act through an aperture 74 upon the diaphragm, which is thus caused to bear on the bellows 80. The degree of vacuum is limited by a check valve 84. In a further modification a bellows is used in place of the diaphragm 72.
