392,759. Tension and stop apparatus for yarns. TRIGGS, W. W., 57, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.-(Sipp-Eastwood Corporation ; 45, Keen Street, Paterson, New Jersey, U.S.A.) June 27, 1932, No. 18171. [Classes 120 (ii) and 142 (iv).] A yarn tension mechanism comprises a revoluble pulley with which the yarn is in tractive engagement, and which is the last. means of applying tension before the yarn passes to the means which exerts draft, together with additional tension means, preceding the pulley, such that the tension exerted by the preliminary means is less than that exerted by the pulley. The yarn A is led, for example to form a warp in warping, between the freely mounted frusto-conical discs 17 and round the pulley 12, which is rotatably mounted on the axle 4 between two felt washers 11, 13, held between a counterweight 10 and a disc 14 weighted at 15. The counterweight 10 causes the vertical axle 4, which is pivoted in the depending arm 3b, to tend to swing away from the direction of the yarn tension, whereby upon yarn breakage it swings over until it contacts with a contact on the electric lamp 9, which is thereby illuminated, and a stop-motion circuit completed. A modified form of pulley with which only a partial turn of the yarn round the pulley is necessary, and hence suitable for yarns having projecting fibres, comprises two discs spaced apart and having radial corrugations arranged so that the yarn passing between them is caused to take a sinuous path.
