[Class 139.] Striking-mechanism; chiming-mechanism; alarm mechanism.-The parent Specification is for an electric clock in which the hands are driven directly by an electric (e.g. A.C. synchronous) motor and are geared to the winding wheel of a striking, chiming, or alarm spring, the train between motor and hands including a free-wheel clutch which allows the hands and the winding wheel to be turned forwardly, independently of the motor. According to the present invention, the free-wheel clutch d, g, c is on the minute hand arbor a and is geared through the arbor to the winding wheel or wheels i for the spring h. Wheel d, loose on arbor a, is driven by motor e through wheels f and has one or more pawls g driving wheels c and b rigid on arbor a. Wheel b drives wheel i through wheels k. To reduce backlash, two or more pawls g may be arranged for separate driving engagement with ratchet wheel c.
