391,888. Commutators for dynamoelectric machines. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London, GRIFFITHS, L., Kennington, Biggin Hall Crescent, MORTON, C. J., 86, Wainbody Avenue, and FRANKLIN, S. H., 1A, Grasmere Avenue, all in Coventry. Nov. 21, 1931, No. 32333. [Class 35.] The body portion of a commutator consists of one or more mouldings of insulating material having slots and apertures, and the segments have portions engaging the slots and other portions which pass through the apertures. In.the form shown in Fig. 3, the segments 6<1> pass through apertures 5<1> in the radial flange 41 of the insulating sleeve 12 and their extensions 7<1> engage undercut grooves 3<1> in a second insulating sleeve 11, the sleeves 11, 12 being clamped on a metal sleeve 2<1>. In the form shown in Fig. 5, one insulating sleeve 1 is used which has dovetail or T-shaped indentations at one end to receive correspondingly shaped extensions 7 of the segments 6. The sleeve 2 may be extended at 17 to grip an insulating washer 16 pressing on the tongues 7 but, alternatively, the parts 16, 17 may be omitted.
