Abstract
391,719. Sharpening scissors &c. STOKES, G., Hollyrood, Ilkley, Yorkshire. Dec. 2, 1932, No. 34159. [Class 60.] A machine for sharpening scissors &c. comprises a main shaft which drives the tool through gearing and effects the traverse of the work past the edge of the tool, means being provided for resiliently pressing the work into contact with the tool. The work support comprises adjustable jaws 19, 20, Fig. 5, carried on a vertical spindle 21, normally under the influence of a spring 23 to press the work against the edge of a tool 8, Fig. 1 driven through multiplying gear from a shaft 4. The worksupport is carried adjustably on a transverse rod 16 mounted on a carriage 11, which slides along guiding rods 9 parallel with the shaft. The carriage is traversed by means of a pivoted half nut thereon engaging a screwed part of the shaft. A spring-influenced and camoperated catch 25 is adapted to engage a recess 24 in the spindle 21 to render the spring 23 ineffective.
