Abstract
391,296. Sliding lids for kettles and like vessels. WILLIAMS, S. V.. 43, Stoneham Road, Clapton, London. March 11, 1932, No. 7295. [Class 66.] In a kettle or like vessel of the kind having an opening in the top closed by a sliding lid, the opening c, which is circular, is formed at one end of the part enclosed by a rib e of straightsided oval configuration raised in the top of the vessel, and is closable by a flat ovalshaped lid d having extensions d<2> riding over the sides of the rib e and continuing outwardly beneath guide members f parallel with the sides of the rib e and secured at their ends to the top of the kettle. The disposition of the aperture c prevents scalding by escaping steam while filling, and the lid d may partially overlap the opening c in the open position to aid this object. One or both ends of the lid may be bevelled to engage snugly against the rib e. A rivet disposed on the underside of the closing edge of the lid may act as a stop in conjunction with the stop afforded by the side cover members.
