Abstract
390,679. Knitting. WALTON, 0. H., 375, Highland Avenue, Needham Heights, Massachusetts, U.S.A. June 29, 1932, No. 18371. [Class 74 (ii).] A rubber or other weft yarn 9 is pierced by the needles so that some of the loops 13 of the knitted ground fabric are drawn through the weft yarn. When an elastic yarn 9 is used, some of the loops 13 may be elastic so that the fabric is elastic in the direction of its length and at right angles thereto. As described in connection with the knitting of a tubular rib fabric, the yarn 9 is held by a presser roll 19 against a roll 20 so that it can be pierced by the point 23 of the hook of a cylinder needle 16.. A guide 30 is also provided for pushing the strand 9 over the top of the needle while the pierced portion 29 of the strand and the loop 13 are held within the hook.
