Abstract
395,519. Knitting-machines. WALTON, 0. H., 375, Highland Avenue, Needham Heights, Massachusetts, U.S.A. July 22, 1932, No. 20711. f_Class 74 (ii).] Means are provided for feeding an elastic or other strand in such position that it is pierced by the hooks of the needles so that loops of the ground yarn are drawn through it. As described in connection with a circular rib machine of the stationary needle cylinder and dial type, an elastic strand 43 is positively fed into the groove of a grooved roll 73 by which it is pressed against a second roll 74 in such position that it is pierced by the hook 84 of each of a number of cylinder needles 29. Subsequently it is pressed by a guide plate 81 over the top of the hook to a position adjacent the loop held by the needle 29 and is cast off with that loop. Alternatively, a third roll 92, Fig. 17 (not shown), may be substituted for the guide plate 81. The roll 74 is provided with vertical grooves 80 for receiving the needles. The strand-feeding means comprises a pair of rolls 48, 49 driven by pinions 50, 51. The upper roll 48 is pressed by an adjustable spring 59 in contact with the other roll. The strands 43 preferably comprises a core and covering yarns arranged helically thereabout in opposite directions.
